When I first got my mini, I noticed somebody ha drilled a hole about half an inch wide into the lower right of the glovebox. Since the glovebox is too tiny to really be useful anyway, I didn’t think much of it, but I’ve started to wonder what it was for. Any ideas what it might be?

Probably cable pass through to plug into the back of the head unit.

I’ve seen switches hidden in a glovebox that way, but unless you suspect something went wrong in the past in a way that was fixable via remote switch and is wrong no longer, probably aux in.

Machine gun headlight controls... or Rocket launcher controls. Maybe a self destruct button, for those a little too curious about what the owner is hiding.

Even though it probably is just for an AUX cable, this is what I'll tell people if they ask about it

I don't know, but it's clear they irreparably ruined the car and it's worthless now. I'm willing to do you a solid and take it off your hands for you

Since Aux jacks are usually on the front of head units, I’m guessing USB (micro or lighting)
Does the head unit have a rear USB?

It’s been said several times already: an accessories cord of some sort for the radio. Looks like it would be easy enough to look under there and see what might have fun there from underneath? I also support the hidden switch to some toy that’s no longer connected. Like underglow...I bet it had neons once.

Hole for an aux cord for that aftermarket stereo located conveniently close by. You could stash an iPod or something in the glovebox and no one would be the wiser.

Possibly? I've never taken it out to check, but there's no front aux port on the unit that's in there...

No clue, I think I would use it to get one of those snazzy retro head units and use that hole as the spot to run aux cables through.

Remote kill switch so you can’t start the car? Prevents a car from being hotwired.

That’s a 10-11 year old head unit. If it doesn’t have a 1/8" aux, it ain’t going to have USB.
I have no idea what that hole was for. Maybe it was for a radar detector?
What are those gray rectangles? Tape residue? Maybe something was stuck to the glovebox wall that needed electricity?
Could it have been for some sort if diagnostic tool? What could it be?

I’ve seen a few older cars with a small duct from the AC system to keep things cool in the glovebox. I think it was a holdover from the days when film had to stay cool for cameras. That hole in your looks like someone put it there for maybe a phone jack or maybe USB like others have suggested.

There could be an aux or use in the back of the unit, but now you mention it, it may have been to do with that stuff. I haven't looked too closely at it, but I think it's some sort of foam mounting tape. It possibly was to supply electricity to something that was there
